New route: QantasLink to fly Sydney to Merimbula
2 min read
QantasLink will add Merimbula to its network before the end of the year, with four direct flights linking the town with Sydney each week, commencing 18 December 2020.
Using its 50-seat Q300 turboprop aircraft, QantasLink will add more than 400 seats onto the route each week, and confirms it will add extra flights if there is strong demand.
The service will compete with Regional Express and result in more affordable airfares for travellers, with one-way tickets on QantasLink starting at $149 .
It’s the first time QantasLink will fly between Sydney and and the Sapphire Coast, with flights into Merimbula from the state’s capital currently a Rex monopoly. Rex also flies from Merimbula to Melbourne, Cooma and Moruya.

“With border restrictions fuelling demand for intra-state travel, we see a big opportunity to bring more tourists to Merimbula,” said QantasLink CEO John Gissing.
“(This) will mean more competitive fares on a route that has been a monopoly for decades,” Gissing reinforces.
Stuart Ayres, NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, adds, “it’s exciting that new destinations are opening up to an even broader market … making it incredibly easy for residents to travel to throughout NSW.”
